Coca-Cola Expands ‘Recycle & Win’ Program

Coca-Cola has invested over $250,000 in the Recycle & Win sustainability initiative which began in Charlotte, NC, in 2009. The program has been expanded into surrounding counties, with Harris Teeter, the city of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg joining Coke to offer consumers the reward of a $50 Harris Teeter gift card for recycling.

The program includes a direct mail educational packet to all single-family households in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County (excluding Cornelius), Concord, Kannapolis and Harrisburg the week of June 17. The packet contains images highlighting which materials should go in recycling bins as well as a “Give it back” sticker; residents who place the sticker on their bin are eligible for a chance to win a $50 Harris Teeter gift card. The Coca-Cola Recycle & Win Recycling Patrol will be visiting area neighborhoods and plans to award a total of 676 $50 Harris Teeter Gift Cards throughout the six-month program.

Race fans staying at one of seven designated campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway can also win prizes for recycling by placing aluminum cans and plastic bottles in blue recycling bags provided at campground check-in. Fans “caught” by the Coca-Cola Recycling Patrol placing items in the recycling bags will be rewarded with $25 in Speedway Bucks good at any CMS concession stand.

Coke also recently announced that the Coca-Cola Foundation/Keep America Beautiful Bin Grant Program is awarding communities, schools, universities and organizations with grants of recycling bins,We offer over 600 parkingassistsystem at wholesale prices of 75% off retail. allowing these entities to either expand existing recycling programs or to make recycling available for the first time. Another Coke recycling program has generated some heat in Chicago for the appearance of “greenwashing.” The program will see 50,000 Chicago homes receiving recycling bins from the soft drink giant; Coke products will be featured on the sides of the bins.

“The city says this is a win-win. Residents get support in recycling,A quality paper cutter or paper drycabinet can make your company's presentation stand out. the city gets subsidized bins. But at what price? Call me old fashioned, but I thought we still lived in a country where you had a right not to be used as a marketing tool by multinational companies,” writes Anna Lappe in a Huffington Post article. Lappe points out that,Today, Thereone.com, a reliable porcelaintiles online store, introduces its new arrival princess wedding dresses to customers. while Coke has been struggling against government efforts around the country to “protect public health” by restricting its sugary beverages, it gains positive PR with its large-scale environmentally friendly program.

A SECOND assault on the next month's $100,000 Rockhampton Cup by Tamworth stayer Prussian Secret is highly unlikely after his trainer Cody Morgan was arrested on Sunday and charged over a doping scandal.

Morgan, 27, was arrested and charged after his $65,000 Tamworth Cup winner Prussian Secret was sensationally scratched by stewards from last Sunday's Gunnedah Cup.

Last winter Morgan floated Prussian Secret north where he finished third to Writer in the Rockhampton Cup before going on and winning the $50,000 Mackay Cup (1800m) on July 7.

At the time, Morgan, a former top New South Wales apprentice jockey and champion rodeo rider said - "I'll be back for the cups up here next winter with some other horses as well."

Acting on a tip-off, NSW police from the Racing Investigation Unit intercepted both Morgan and another man, 47, after they allegedly had stomach tubed Prussian Secret before Sunday's Gunnedah Cup.

Drenching involves a liquid substance from a bucket being poured into a plastic tube that after being placed trough the nostrils flows into the horse's stomach.

It is used unscrupulously to gain an advantage as in most cases drenching with TCO-2 (Total Carbon Dioxide - bi-card) allows the horse to perform at its maximum for longer.

NSW Detective Superintendent Ken Finch, while not naming the substance used in the Prussian Secret case, hinted by saying "it prevents the build-up of lactic acid and allows the blood to oxygenate in a much better way".

Morgan and two other men have been granted conditional bail to appear in court at Tamworth on May 27.

In recent years some Rockhampton licensees have been outed over elevated TCO-2 findings in swabs taken from their winners.

Racing Queensland's chief steward Wade Birch said from Brisbane yesterday that his officials would increase their surprise visits to racing stables leading up to race meetings.

"We have already started increased vigilance with inspections to trainers' properties and stables. Any treatment - drenching and stomach tubing included - is outlawed within 24 horses of a horse racing. Rockhampton and northern trainers can expect us to arrive at their stables at any time without warning. This is all about providing a level playing field for all racing industry stakeholders," Birch said.

Birch instanced that just last Thursday, South East Queensland trainer Robert Bradshaw with ties in Townsville and Rockhampton, was disqualified for six months emanating from a surprise visit by stewards to his stables.
