EAFT Technologies, a
Bangalore-based end-to-end Product & Solutions Company, today announced the
launch of its 3rd generation tablets as part of its Destiny line - D90T and
D70P. As per the company statement, the D90T is the first of its kind 9.7-inch
IPS display on Android 4.0 that provides optimum viewing in landscape and
portrait modes. The IPS panel, according to them, offers vivid and clear
pictures while displaying consistent and accurate colour from all viewing
angles. The D90T, EAFT Technologies claims, utilises this display capability to
the fullest as it can play full 1080p HD content, and has an HDMI port to
display the content on bigger screens. Powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core Cortex A9
processor, it has a range of ports extend the hard drive capacity and use
accessories with the tablet. In addition, it gives a prolonged battery life of
8hrs of continuous video playback with an 8000 mAH battery.
As for the D70P tablet, the company statement claims that it is a compact, powerful 7-inch tablet that has a built in 3G radio providing universal connectivity regardless of location. With a best-in-class 1024x600 IPS panel HD display, this device is powered by a 1.6GHz Cortex A9 processor. The D70P comes with HDMI, USB, extendable memory card slot and a powerful 4000 mAH battery for hours of entertainment.
The company shares further that WorldSpace will be launched on D90T and D70P as an on-demand Music Service and this will be the first time that WorldSpace would be made available as a service on Smart Devices. WorldSpace as a Downloadable Service for Postponable Listening WorldSpace application will come pre-embedded on D90P and D70T. The unique feature of this offering is that the users can download WorldSpace programs on EAFT’s Destiny tablets and listen to them as per their convenience unlike internet radio which streams music only in real-time. A total of 72 hours of music across 12 channels is available for consumption on a daily basis through this service. This content is refreshed daily and is DRM protected to avoid piracy. This is the first time that WorldSpace is available as a downloadable service.
Both the D90T and D70P tablets have pre-embedded WorldSpace application which is FREE for the first six months of service, claims the company. The WorldSpace application is also available on the Google Play Store for download on other Android Tablets and Smartphones (service will be available for free for one month in non-EAFT devices). It also includes an application that can read and edit MS Office documents such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint in addition to a host of other applications.
Compounding the issue is the question of what the fare would be for a long-term operation. The $2 fare will expire when the federal subsidy runs out, and it's not certain that the city will continue to subsidize the low fare.
Nor is it certain how many riders would continue to use the fast ferry if the fare were to go up to a normal market level. The one-way fare on the fast-ferry line between Hoboken and West 39th Street operated by New York Waterway is $9.
Borough President James Molinaro warned when the New York Water Taxi service from Great Kills Park started last month, "People need to show that they want this to stay . . . The people wanted it, and now it's up to them to keep it. It's either use it or lose it."
Could it be that the market for the service is as limited as it seems? Or is it that the idea of getting to Great Kills Park to catch the fast ferry just hasn't caught on with that many South Shore commuters yet?
Some feel the ferry dock is so off-the-beaten path inside Great Kills Park that it deters commuters from driving there. Then, there's the time it takes to get in and out of the harbor, which lengthens the ride.
Critics also point to the ferry's location on Staten Island, saying it is too far south — despite the fact that it is located almost in the middle of the Island's coastline. Those critics maintain that commuters who live north of the park will not drive in the opposite direction of their destination to get to the ferry.
When the Ocean Breeze fishing pier was planned, then-Borough President Guy Molinari floated the idea of building a fast ferry dock in conjunction with the pier. There was land for ample parking and the pier is on a direct path to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and St. George ferry terminal. And, it is at the foot of a major roadway — Seaview Avenue.

Windows Phone 8 is still in its infancy as regards individual or enterprise adoption but does offer a range of security technologies comparable to most other devices, encryption and secure boot mechanism, enterprise app deployment mechanisms and a degree of feature lock-down control. While some of this is less fully featured than existing BlackberryOS and iOS its depth of integration with already established Windows management tools and infrastructure will make it very attractive in the enterprise, as will the non fragmented, wall-garden approach similar to Apple's.
