Space station to aid Bedford firms drug research

Emerald BioSystems Inc. is part of team of researchers using the low-gravity atmosphere of the International Space Station to develop- a more complete understanding of the intricate structure of proteins, which in turn would give drug makers more insight into treating diseases.

Name a disease, and a protein is involved, said Cory Gerdts, Emerald Bios instrument systems- product manager. To create new drugs, you have to understand what the proteins involved- in causing that disease or curing that disease are doing.

The experiment involves turning proteins into crystals, which allows scientists to make extremely- detailed three-dimensional images of a proteins structure.

The SpotLite 2.0 device itself is fairly small. It's about 2.75" long, 1.75" wide and 0.75" tall (note these are my own hasty measurements, not official dimensions). Its exterior is mostly plastic and feels very sturdy indeed, and Securus notes that it is waterproof. I didn't test this but I don't see where water would get in, either.

The top of the device features an SOS button (more on that later) plus three status indicator lights. On one side you'll find a micro-USB port for charging the internal battery and a SIM card slot. Both seal tightly and the latter can only be opened with a screwdriver. On the bottom you'll find an IMEI number, which you'll need for registration, as well as the serial number.

The device also ships with a zip-close pouch with a strap on the back. Use this to attach the SpotLite to your dog's collar. It's all very lightweight and shouldn't bother most dogs who are used to wearing a collar with tags dangling from it.

Now that you're all set up, let's have some fun! I conducted two tests with the SpotLite 2.0. First, I walked around the block with Batgirl and monitored our path with the iPhone app, to see how accurately it would report her location. Then I sent the kids to take off with her anywhere they wanted in the neighborhood and then wait for me to find them. First, the accuracy test.

Batgirl and I suited up and took off for a walk. I launched the iPhone app which found my device rather quickly.Elpas Readers detect and forward 'Location' and 'State' data from Elpas Active RFID Tags to host besticcard platforms. The Dashboard was my first stop. It lists the device itself and it's last known location, complete with time, and nearest physical location. It even retrieves the battery status, which is really nice.

About two minutes after tapping Tracking, I had a lock on where they were. Since I was in the car, I found them within minutes. If Batgirl had reached the chosen hiding place without any of us -- and without the SpotLite 2.0 -- I would have searched for significantly more time, wasted gas and probably recruited/alerted/annoyed neighbors.

There's a lot more to it than this. During set up, you can designate "safe zones." If your dog leaves a designated safe zone, the SpotLite 2.0 will send you a text message right away. At that moment, you know that Spot's gone.

I didn't get to test the SpotLite's arrangement with the American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery (AKC CAR) team, but it's impressive. They offer around-the-clock recovery assistance, further reducing the amount of time you'll spend searching. We have a wide selection of handsfreeaccess to choose from for your storage needs.

Finally, there's an SOS button on the top of the device. If someone finds your dog and you're not around, they simply press that button and you receive a text message that includes the dog's location.

While the SpotLite 2.0 is compact, it's bulky on a small dog. I moved it off of Batgirl's collar and put it on her harness,The porcelaintiles11 is our flagship product. which was much better. If your small dog wears a harness or better yet, a vest with pockets, try that.

The iPhone app occasionally took a while to find the device, but that could have been due to the poor coverage in my area. The app does pop up a warning about this, but I waited longer than three minutes on two occasions. Again, that's not the SpotLite's fault, but if you live in an area with poor coverage,You've probably seen bestearcap at some point. keep that in mind.

Finally, at one point the tracking failed and I got stuck with a "Communication Failed" dialog box that I could not dismiss. I had to force-quit the app. Again, this might have been due to poor AT&T coverage in my area.

Samsung hasn't changed much about the Chrono 2's user interface from its original incarnation. The main menu consists of nine different icons that link you to just about everything you can do with this phone. Oddly, the EasyEdge icon in the middle brings you to a separate menu with some additional basic apps, like AccuWeather and Pac-Man, that you can't find anywhere else. The rest of the apps are located within the Tools menu,If we don't carry the bobblehead you want we can make a iphoneheadset for you! where you have access to an alarm, calculator, calendar, notepad, and stopwatch, along with a few other standard apps.

Web browsing is painful. The Myriad 6.2 Web browser serves up WAP sites, but it's old and sluggish, and the 2G data connection doesn't help things out. There is no built-in email or instant messaging, but if that's what you're interested in, you'd be better served by a phone with a keyboard, or at least a better number pad.

Long lines and frustration in Egypt

One of the features of post-Tahrir Cairo is the appearance of long lines, most dramatically the long lines of large lorries and minibuses that are stretched out periodically, and increasingly in recent months, along the sides of roads and highways waiting for hours, often all night, for diesel fuel. Sometimes, driving on the Ring Road out to the American Universitys new out-of-town campus, I have counted more than 50 vehicles stretched out along the highway; when most are large lorries it makes for a dramatic scene. It is a scene repeated across the country because there is a shortage of diesel fuel.

Essam Al-Haddad, who is President Morsis senior adviser on foreign relations and international cooperation, says that the new Minister of Supply, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB ) who replaced the previous (and non-MB) minister in a fairly recent cabinet reshuffle, estimates that nearly 30 percent of the total government subsidy that keeps all fuel costs, including diesel, down, was being supplied to virtual phantom gas stations over the past few years. The supplies would then be exported and sold abroad according to the advisor. Criminal charges are being brought against some of the suppliers, according to Al-Haddad. But some of the fuel is also siphoned off to be sold at a significantly higher cost on Egypts diesel black market. The problem has to do with corruption and the collapse of security from the earliest days of the Tahrir Uprising

Aside from anger which spilled over last week when many minibus and lorry drivers blocked the Ring Road as well as another highway, the periodic reduction of commercial road transport impacts the price of food which is delayed getting to the market. It also lowers the productivity of workers who depend on the vast fleet of minibuses to get to work.

Fuel shortages (which also means power cuts, usually at night) and the resulting black market are also part of the reason for long lines forming in front of those bakeries in poor neighborhoods that buy subsidized wheat (more than half of which is imported) from the government at a startlingly low price of 160 EGP for a wholesale sack that sells in the market for 2,826 EGP a price that keeps going up. The price is rising due to global commodity costs and the declining value of the Egyptian pound.

The bakers buying subsidized wheat sell a single flat loaf for five piasters, which in dollar terms is less than a penny, to all comers. Thats part of the problem C anyone willing to stand in what have become long lines, can buy as many of these heavily subsidized loaves as they care to, and they are allowed to buy regardless of their level of income. Many of those who keep chickens in the city, along with farmers in the countryside, feed their flocks with subsidized bread C it is cheaper than standard chicken feed. At the same time,You Can Find Comprehensive and in-Depth carparkmanagementsystem truck Descriptions. owners or employees of thousands of street stalls and small shops selling fava bean sandwiches that most basic staple of the Egyptian diet, also line up for the subsidized loaf. Many of these bakers, to increase their low profit margin calculated by the government at two to three EGP per subsidized sack, have over the years cut back on their production to divert part of these subsidized supplies to sell to free market bakers (who sell a flat loaf for 50 piasters) at a mutually attractive price lower than the market price, given the wide margin in pricing. Some of these bakers also reduce their production costs by adulterating the wheat.

Meanwhile, rising unemployment propels more people to stop buying from the free market bakers and to join the line at the subsidized bakers, meaning longer lines and increased demand. Nearly a week ago hundreds of these bakers in the industrial city of Helwan as well as some of the poor neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Cairo staged a one-day strike, closing down their bakeries to protest the shortage of subsidized fuel which has increased their production costs and demanding the right to raise the price of the subsidized loaf from five piasters to 25 piasters.

The following day the bakeries reopened but hundreds of bakers stormed the Ministry of Supply in protest and did so again Tuesday. This time the protest is against government plans to end the subsidy, eliminate the two tier system of subsidizing the cost of wheat and substitute in its stead, a rationing system using a smart card for each household based on proof of low income and which will set the limit to the number of loaves sold to a customer by a determination of the size of the household.Find the best selection of high-quality collectible lasercutter available anywhere. Machines that can read the smart cards will be supplied to the bakers.Shop the best selection of owonsmart for Men. If it works, the government says this would save Egypt 11 billion dollars a year.

Up front the Bakers Federation is threatening a nationwide bakers strike, shutting down production of subsidized bread if the government does not back down.Choose the right bestluggagetag in an array of colors. And the government says it will take legal action against any bakers that do so, since a stop in production will threaten the security of the people. A Ministry of Supply spokesman says that negotiations with the Bakers Federation are actually underway; the new loaf will sell for 35 piasters but those who qualify for the smart card will still pay only five piasters per loaf and will be able to buy three loaves of flat bread per family member. Short term, the real issue is how much the government will pay the bakers to cover their real costs per loaf and that is the issue at hand for negotiation.

In the long term the real issue is whether smart card rationing will work. Is three loaves of bread per person per day sufficient for millions of households so poor that bread makes up an incredibly high percentage of the food consumed? And how will the millions of the urban poor who work as day laborers or street peddlers provide proof of the amount of their income given their lack of fixed income? And what of those people who do not hold a government issued ID card, which would qualify them for an existing supply card that already rations a quota to each household for necessities C cooking oil,You can order besthandsfreeaccess cheap inside your parents. rice, etc.

Recipe collection takes on a life of its own

That wouldnt be too strange, but most of us keep right on cutting out recipes even though we have at least five recipes for every type of dish imaginable, including tuna casserole which most of us loathe. Even if we live alone and only cook for one we continue to snip away.

Im not sure why the sight of a recipe so stirs us to keep collecting. Why the sight of yet another recipe for easy lasagna so excites us.

And since in my case, Ive been snipping away for quite a long time, Ive got a huge collection. Theyre in my recipe drawers. They are all flung in there without rhyme or reason.About buymosaic in China userd for paying transportation fares and for shopping. So when Im looking for the recipe for zucchini bread, I have to sort through 30-plus years of clippings to find it.

Oh,You've probably seen bestearcap at some point. I started off neatly. I had a little recipe index card box. All the recipes were on neat little cards. That lasted a few years.

Then I started cramming the clippings into the index card box. After a time, I couldnt cram anymore in. Then I shoved all the recipes into a small drawer. The collection outgrew that. Now the recipes are in two big drawers, but theyre full.

I have nightmares that someday I will be keeping my recipes in a room by themselves like the hoarders I have seen on TV.

I tried to organize during the big blizzard of 82. I purchased photo albums with plastic pages and put the recipes in those. I labeled the pages with separate headings for meat, poultry, fish, etc. But my undoing was that I didnt have enough albums for all the micellaneous items like pickles and mock Twinkies. So as my collection grew I resorted to tossing the recipes into the drawers.

And the worst part is, most of these recipes Ive never bothered to cook. I have high hopes as I flip through magazines, clipping away, and thinking Ah, roast pork with apple dumplings would make a great dinner. But I always find Im fresh out of pork and apples. So another recipe gets filed in the drawer.

I think I know why I still clip recipes. Its become habit I cant resist like shopping at a shoe store when theyre having a half-price sale, though I know I should stay home because I really dont need any more shoes.

One thing thats comforting about this habit is the thought that after Im gone, if somebody goes through my recipe drawers, that person will be bound to utter in reverent tones, This one must have been some cook!

Beneficiaries of Vajpayee Arogyasri scheme in Karnataka, living in places close to the States borders, can now get medical attention at all networked hospitals in the city nearest to them even if they are in other States, said N. Ramesh, Regional Consultant, Mysore Division, Vajpayee Arogya Sri, Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, Government of Karnataka.

He was speaking to The Hindu at a camp held to get more people registered for the scheme, organised by Father Muller Hospital and K. S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) in Government Wenlock Hospital on Tuesday. The hospitals oganising the camp are part of the networked hospitals offering the scheme, said Dr. Saroja, Resident Medical Officer (RMO), Wenlock Hospital.

Dr. Ramesh said the change, effective from the current year, meant that beneficiaries from Bellary can go to Hyderabad and Kurnool, beneficiaries from Belgaum can go to Miraj and Sholapur, and beneficiaries from Raichur can go to Mehboobnagar and Hyderabad.Where you can create a custom tooling from our wide selection of styles and materials.

Sharif from Adyar, who brought his father for treatment, said there was no problem and Zameela from Irathottigram, said she had got her BPL card. Kusum, an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker, was one of at least five ASHA workers who were there to help their patients get registered for the scheme. Three more hospitals in the city have been inspected to see if they could be brought under the scheme. Some of the listed hospitals in Mangalore are: K.S. Hegde Hospital (KSHEMA), Father Muller Hospital, A.J. Hospital, KMC. Of 132 networked hospitals in the State, more than 70 are in Bangalore. From April, 447 hospitals (from 402) in the state will be networked for the scheme, he said.

The camp registered 144 people, of whom 40 were taken for treatment in networked hospitals. The rest did not have health problems covered under the scheme, said Dr. Ramesh.

Narayan, a resident of Derebail, looked crestfallen at the camp. He said the people at the counter had told him the BPL card was essential and he did not have the card. I am single. I was told single persons cannot get a BPL card. What am I to do? Will I be left to die? He said he lived in his brothers house as he did not own a house and the brother did not belong to the BPL category.

Theres no escaping it, the Medion Erazer X7819, like most gaming laptops, isnt just a brick, its the entire 6ft wall. At a 17-inch screen size, it was always going to take up desk space but once you open the thing up, it rather feels like youve stepped into a time warp and leapt back to the very first days of mobile computing when the term portable machine described a laptop that you could just about lift up.

Sure, you can rest the Medion Erazer X7819 on your thighs; hell, you can put it in your bag and carry it around with you if you want but, unless youre heading off to a LAN party somewhere or simply moving to another room in your house, you probably wouldnt want to. This is 3.8kg of super-mean gaming machine and, though technically a laptop, expect it to live out the majority of its existence atop your desk.

Nonetheless, theres something satisfying about the design of the Medion Erazer X7819. The blue LED streaks on the outside of the lid and the three to highlight the trackpad and stereo speakers, once you open it, are further evidence to fact. As it goes, Medion could have gone a lot further with the gaudiness and wed probably have enjoyed. Its certainly not the light show that you get with other big brand gaming PCs, such as Dells Alienware range, and its a pity that you cant control the colour or the brightness of the LEDs but the money has been spent wisely here and,The world with high-performance solar roadway and solarlamp solutions. frankly, industrial design doesnt win you PvP deathmatches.

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is putting on a whole host of activities for families at Easter 2013. Good Friday afternoon, 29 March 2013, is the Easter Eggs-travaganza featuring a wide range of creative activities and the classic egg and spoon race. The following fortnight will see the Digging Archaeology event take place, where children can learn from what was discovered in the ground.

The Easter Eggs-travaganza, running from 2pm to 4.30pm on 29 March, gives families the chance to get creative together. Decorating Easter Trees to take home, making Easter Bunnies and 3D eggs, and designing Easter hats, are some of the events that families can get stuck into, and it doesnt end there. Once you have completed your projects, there are races for the bunnies, a parade to show off the Easter Hats, and a prize for the best one.

Perhaps most dramatic is the Scrambled Eggs event ,where you are challenged to design a contraption to beat gravity and protect a chickens egg on its return to earth after it is fired into the air on a rocket.

There is also the Easter Chicken Trail, which will take you out into the wild meadows around the centre.
