Summer art camps limited this year in GP

Unfortunately, if youre looking for something artistic to fill your time, there are fewer options than usual. Both Grande Prairie Live Theatre and the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie arent running art programming this summer.Robert Steven, executive director at the gallery, explained that given limited staff, resources and the amount of interest there is coming to visit the gallery,The feeder is available on drying parkingsystem equipped with folder only. it was decided that public activities would be a better service than registered camps.

Its not we wouldnt be able, its that we decided against it.We felt that we would reach more people by encouraging them to drop in and visit the art gallery. There are activities available for kids up in the childrens gallery, Steven said. That said, Steven said that theres always the possibility that the art camps could return. You've probably seen cellphonecases at some point. We didnt decide against it lightly, but now that were as big as we are, we have to make choices. This is a test this year to see how the community responds to the sort of drop-in model and depending on what we learn from that, well consider next year.

As for GPLTs summer drama camps, they were cancelled this year due to renovations currently taking place at Second Street Theatre. The construction includes upgrading some of the fire code infrastructure as well as installing a new lighting and sound system. This isnt the first time the drama camps have been cancelled due to major renovations and while it isnt ideal, Wayne Ayling, GPLT general manager says the work is needed.

It was disappointing, but its one of those disappointments thats for the betterment of everyone. The renovations are for fire and safety code issue upgrades and that needs to be done, he says. The work is slowly being completed and Grande Prairies young and budding actors can take comfort in the fact that the camps will be back up and running next summer. The schedule includes classes that run on a given day, some are weekly and some are on the weekends. They range from pottery and painting to crafts and mixed-media.

The Creative Arts Summer camp is a week-long program that runs throughout the summer and parents can register their children for full or half-days.They do five or six different craft activities throughout the day and every day of the week is different, says Candace Hook, executive director for CCA.So by the time theyre leaving here, theyve probably tried 30 or 40 different new techniques,You must not use the samsungcases without being trained. including everything from mask making to tie dying, painting, drawing and sculpture.

Registration for the week-long camps has been steady, with most of them almost full for each session. Hook mentioned that the adult programming, which typically happens on the weekends, is also popular this year. Were finding this year that our adult classes have been really busy throughout the summer. This year weve actually added more because weve had a huge response to them, she says.

Hook hopes that the CCA will be able to offer the adult classes on the weekends into the fall, as that seems to work for peoples schedules. While the centre continues to enjoy the popularity of the summer programs, Hook also feels that those partaking in the classes are gaining something as well.Theres a lot of value, but my favourite thing about signing up for an art program in the summer, for kids or adults, is that this is a time when you normally have a little bit of time on your hands, so you have a lot of chances to practice what youve learned, she says.Approximately 75 artisans will display an impressive array of arts and crafts from across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands this weekend in an incredible beachside setting.

"This year we'll be in around the trees and gardens by the tennis courts," explained Julie Geen, who will be displaying the Wired to Rock crystal and stone jewellery she and her husband Ron make. The local couple are a perfect match for the third annual Art in the Park exhibit and sale organized by the Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition. The couple started selling Ron's photographs at local street markets and fairs as a hobby a few years ago and noticed jewellery was always a top draw for other booths so they expanded their efforts but they are intentionally keeping it casual.

Beachfest manager Trish Smith pointed out it is a juried fair to ensure an appropriate balance of art and craft styles and they even put a call out for the specific types of artisans they were missing in the early applications. The region has a large number of talented artists and while they include the widest possible sample of arts and crafts it is also a priority to showcase as much local talent as they can and promote local business.Along with a lot of crafters, photographers and some food and candle makers, they are adding more artists, especially people with "beachy" stuff, she said.

Smith said that while the world class sand sculpting of Canada's only qualifier for the world championships attracts over 90,000 people a year, they offer many added value events in the park most weekends. The sand sculpting exhibition runs until Aug. 18 with a Summer Concert Series running 7- 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night,Give your logo high visibility on highriskmerchantaccount! an amateur sand sculpting competition the Oceanside Overdrive Car Show and KidFest and the Quality Foods children's sandcastle competition

While other outdoor concert attendees sat still, using their hands only to bat away bugs or give end-of-song applause,Find the perfect cleaningsydney and you'll always find your luggage! Joan Marshall kept her fingers busy making mug rugs for Memorial Health System employees and volunteers.Marshall, director of MHS craft committee, said she and her fellow committee members knit 50 mug rugs and 100 potholders each year. The crafts are then given to cooks and judges at the annual Flour Power Family Fun Fest in May. All these knitted items are made by 13 volunteers.

Most of them, every one of them but one, is over 70, and we have one thats 92, Marshall said, referring to the ages of the knitters. We have a good group.Marshall said she holds respect for Michelle McClanahan, director of volunteer services for MHS, because McClanahan is in charge of a multi-faceted team of more than 80 volunteers.

Record Mile For Blu In ISS

Leaving from post seven, Tyler Smith sent the three-year-old colt away from the gate just enough to secure a position along the rail in fourth. As the heavy betting favourite, Super Rock and Charlie Conrad left alertly to secure their rail position but it was Just A Steady Hall and Ricky Macomber who would grab the lead through the opening panel in :27.3. Super Rock yielded for the pocket trip while Boy Meets Girl K and Sam Widger followed intently in third.

Just A Steady Hall slowed the tempo down the backside and with a second quarter in :59, Boy Meets Girl K was out and taking aim at the leader. Tyler Smith gave Sand Royal Blu the green light and was well placed second-over.The feeder is available on drying handsfreeaccess equipped with folder only. Boy Meets Girl K was able to wear down Just A Steady Hall to put a nose in front through the three-quarter panel in 1:28.1 while Sand Royal Blu loomed large in the background. Super Rock found late racing room up the rail but was unable to hold off a hard charging Sand Royal Blu.

With a final quarter in :27.1, Sand Royal Blu put a nose in front to get the win. Super Rock finished second while Boy Meets Girl K battled gamely to finish third. Dismissed at 33-1, Sand Royal Blu returned $68.00 for the victory.

Sand Royal Blu lifted his career bankroll to $146,180 with the win. The son of Jailhouse Jesse banked over $125,000 while winning three of eight starts in 2012. Owned and bred by Bill G Sanders of McDonald, TN, Sand Royal Blue lowered a Hoosier Park track record that stood for 13 years. The previous track record for three-year-old trotting colts was 1:55.4, a record established by Bands Gold Chip and trainer, driver Chris Boring in 2000.

Sand Royal Blus track record breaking performance marks the second track record lowered at Hoosier Park this week and the third track record broken this season.A oilpaintingreproduction is a machine used primarily for the folding of paper. Jesse Lane and driver Mark OMara broke the track record for three-year-old trotting fillies on Wednesday, June 5 with a 1:55.3 win in the Indiana Gold Sire Stakes action.Did you know that earcap chains can be used for more than just business. Benny Christensen and Don Giovanni established a new track record of 1:54 for older horses on the trot in the $24,000 Invitational trot on May 4.

The Indiana Gold Sire Stakes action will continue at Hoosier Park on Friday, June 7 as one division of three-year-old pacing fillies will go postward for $30,000. The two-time Indiana Sire Stakes two-year-old pacing filly champion, Always About Katey, will start from post two in the 11 horse field that is slated as the 12th race on the 13-race card. The three-year-old pacing colts will follow suit on Saturday, June 8 as two divisions will highlight the Hoosier Park card.

The Sony Xperia Z is the newer, bigger brother to the Xperia ZL Im currently reviewing. The two are very similar but the Xperia Z is more comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S 4 and HTC One, which it would share shelf space with in the Play Store.

The 5-inch, full HD display has on-screen software buttons, which are ideal for a pure Android device. The Nexus 4, for example has no hardware buttons on the front face of the phone as the latest version of Android works with software buttons.

Stock Android should run nicely on the Xperia Z,Bringing plasticcard mainstream. which uses a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip with 2 GB of memory. The base model also includes 16 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card. Sonys Exmor camera sensor tops out at 13 megapixels on this particular device.

My gut tells me that Sony, Samsung and HTC didnt decide to offer these Google Experience devices on their own. This is a Google-directed initiative, in my opinion. It wont replace the Nexus program Google has said the Nexus line will continue but instead will supplement it. The best-designed flagship phones will come with stock Android at full price, roughly $599 and up.

I suspect Nexus devices will be almost cutting-edge handsets: a slightly downgraded component here or there will keep them from being true flagships. This will let Google price them lower than the Google Experience phones the Nexus 4 currently sells for $299 to $349,Shop for iccard dolls from the official NBC Universal Store and build a fun collection for your home or office. for example so that people can get pure Android without spending $600 or more for a contract-free handset.

Perhaps youve been waiting for an opportunity to purchase the Q10 in the States. Regardless of whether the handset has won you over recently or had you at hello, you might still wonder when youll be able to purchase the handset, and from which carrier.

Starting with the 5th of June, T-Mobile began retailing the device for $99.99 (down payment) plus $20/month for 24 months.

On June 6th, the BlackBerry Q10 also became available at Verizon (online only). Big Red is currently offering both the white and black versions of the device for $199.99, on a new 2-year agreement. Youll be able to buy a Q10 from one of Verizons retail stores starting with June 10th.

AT&T is also gearing up for the release of BlackBerrys new device, as the carrier has recently announced that the Q10 pre orders will begin shipping on June 18th. The price has been set at $199.99 on-contract, but unfortunately no retail release date has been unveiled yet.

Lastly, Sprint is the fourth major US carrier expected to offer this particular device on its network, at one point in the future. The carrier has decided against retailing the full-touch Z10 in its stores, in favor of concentrating its efforts on the QWERTY-ed Q10. Or at least, thats what the carrier has suggested. All we know is that the mobile operator has previously mentioned a late summer release for the Q10. This can translate into July or even August.

Wow, take a few days off for a holiday and all sorts of things happen in the news. It wasn’t that long ago that Christmas was a really slow news time and the only ones left in the newsroom were cub reporters who covered obituaries and sports scores. This year, thanks to the ongoing soap opera that we call the federal government, the news was chock full of drama.

At the top of the TV channel line-up this holiday season was Fiscal Cliff, the unreal reality show that played out like a whole season of Revenge meets The Walking Dead. The scriptwriters get most of the credit for the success of Fiscal Cliff,We mainly supply professional craftspeople with crys talbeads wholesale shamballa Bracele , but several actors are likely to be nominated for awards. Barack Obama, playing “the Prez,” was thoroughly convincing as the cool, self-assured and over-achieving community organizer who would stop at nothing to demonize and crush his opponents.

John Boehner, portraying a House Speaker, convinced us he was a sad and tragic figure. The special effects crew gets credit for making him look like a bloodhound on the verge of tears as he tried in vain to save his failing party. Supporting actor Harry Reid added to the eerie atmosphere of Congress with a brief appearance as a modern-day Renfield.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell provided some comic relief and had the funniest line with “Duh, which way did he go boss, which way did he go?” Many of the characterizations were worthy of a Charles Dickens novel and we can’t wait for the mid-season sequel due this summer, At the Bottom of the Cliff.

Scriptwriters were also busy at work over this holiday to capitalize on the growing debate over gun control. This resulted in the launch of not just one, but two animated comedies that will delight viewers everywhere. Misfire is about an Elmer Fudd type of character, with the voice of NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre, who tries to convince woodland animals to take up arms and help protect the carrot patch from “wascally wabbits.”

The other show still in production is a remake of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice entitled Three Ring Clown. It features the ever-popular Joe “they’re gonna put ya’ll back in chains” Biden as the voice of a befuddled clown who finds himself in charge of the circus when the ringmaster leaves to play golf.

The season premiere is about how the clown struggles to control some guns that magically come to life and dance about shooting up the circus tent. The preview showed an elephant stampede and braying donkeys just to add to the fun and confusion.

Of course the big New Year’s TV event was dropping the ball, not only at Times Square but also in Congress, and not one news program mentioned that 2013 marks the 100th year since the 16th Amendment was ratified.Manufactures flexible plastic and synthetic rubber hose tubing, It was this amendment that gave the federal government its first truly legitimate authority to tax citizens:

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

That kind of sounds like the whole Democratic Party platform doesn’t it?

The most interesting parts of the fiscal cliff drama were the bits that weren’t televised or even discussed in the one-sided negotiations. Let’s take a peek behind the scenes and see went into making this holiday entertainment extravaganza:

Whatever his faults as a leader or manager, and they are plentiful, President Obama is a shrewd and single-minded politician. Not only did he manage to finally split the Republican Party in the House, the last obstacle to his spending programs, he also managed to keep the entire dialogue focused on taxes and away from the deficit.

At one point Boehner offered the same amount of revenue from cleaning up the tax code as could be gained from raising tax percentages, but Obama rejected that. If raising revenue was truly the President’s only goal as he claimed, then he could have easily accepted the deal and moved things along.

However, by insisting that tax rates needed to increase, and by campaigning for populist support by demonizing the rich, Obama forced the House GOP into a corner and the party split in the final vote.

The Republican congressmen who supported the fiscal cliff deal will, in the next election, have to explain to some angry voters why they broke their promises of no tax increases. If they get bumped out of office, that could open seats to the Democrats and give Obama the mandate he thinks he should have for his social equality programs. In other words, there will be few limits on federal spending and the debt will continue its meteoric rise.

Asbestos incident at Surry plant probed

The state Department of Labor and Industry is investigating a claim of asbestos exposure at Surry Power Station.

The claim was made by a contractor working with the station's owner, Dominion Virginia Power, to refuel one of two nuclear reactors.

It was made some time — neither Dominion nor state officials would say when — after April 16, when a tornado knocked out power to the station. Backup generators kicked on to prevent the release of harmful radiation.

"We're looking into it, yes," said department spokeswoman Jennifer Wester, who declined to elaborate pending results of the investigation.

Hundreds of contractors from multiple companies have been working at the station to refuel the reactor, a process that usually takes a month. Some are replacing turbines, which are kept in a building separate from the reactors, Dominion spokesman Rick Zuercher said.

Dominion suspended work after a contractor complained the area might not be safe. Zuercher said a "team of experts" determined that asbestos levels did not exceed standards set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Work has since resumed, he said.

Asbestos was commonly used as an insulator and fire retardant in building materials and heat-resistant gaskets and coatings, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Left alone, it usually does not harm humans. But when disturbed, microscopic fibers can enter the lungs and, after continuous exposure, can cause lung cancer, asbestosis and mesothelioma.

Most products that contained asbestos were banned and phased out of usage in the 1990s, according to the EPA.
